Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival JRO, Rivetrees Country Inn

Arrive at the Kilimanjaro International Airport where you’ll be met after passing through customs and driven to the Rivertrees Country Inn set in the serene foot hills of Mt. Meru. We highly recommend extending your stay by one extra night to help recover from jet lag and take advantage of some of the fun activities in the area such as canoeing on Lake Duluti or an easy mountain bike ride through the lush mountain scenery. Accommodation: Rivertrees Country Inn. Meals Included: Dinner. FB

Days 2-4 Serengeti National Park

Enjoy a beautiful scenic flight this morning, soaring over the Ngorongoro crater and rift valley escarpment on an expeditious route to the heart of the Serengeti National park. Break out your binoculars and begin your first game drive as you make your way to a Olakira Camp. This deluxe mobile safari camp follows the great migration throughout the year, so whenever you travel you’ll be perfectly poised to take in this ecological spectacle. From December – March the camp is located in the verdant and expansive short grass plains of the southern Serengeti. In February, thousands of new babies are born within a two week time period making this a particularly dynamic time to visit the area. From June – November the camp migrates to the very northern reaches of the park and takes a prime location near the Mara River where the migration make their perilous crossing to the Kenyan side of the border with crocodiles nipping at their heels. Each day you’ll have the option of an early morning game drive and a picnic breakfast, or leaving a bit later and taking your lunch with you. Longer game drives enable you to visit different areas of the Serengeti looking for struggles between predator and prey or the chance to watch interactions between different families of elephants. Look for elephant belly rumbles as they greet each other, or witness lion cubs doing somersaults as they chase their litter mates. Touching the earth lightly, this canvas camp all but disappears into the surrounding bush. Eight wonderful en-suite tents ensure an intimate and authentic wilderness experience. Accommodation: Olakira Camp. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. FB

Days 5-7 Ruaha National Park

Considered one of the undiscovered wildernesses of East Africa, Ruaha fans out from the Ruaha River, the lifeline of the park. This massive national park is the largest in Tanzania at over 20,000 km2 and is even larger than the Kruger National Park in South Africa. It also hosts an estimated 10% of the lions in the world as well as boasting the world’s third largest population of wild dogs. It is one of the few areas with a sustainable population of cheetah left in E. Africa. In addition to the staggering number of unique predators, the varying topography of rocky granitic outcrops “kopjes”, majestic baobabs, and expansive grassland plains are home to species not found in northern Tanzania parks including sable, roan, and greater and lesser kudu.

Kwihala Tented camp is in one of the best locations within the national park, perfectly situated between the Mwagusi Sand River and the Mwagusi Valley. This section of the national park is at the core of the national park, where the game density is particularly concentrated. Kwihala Camp will be your deluxe outpost from which to explore the vast surroundings. With only 6 tented camps the experience offers an intimate and unfettered wilderness experience best suited for the true safari traveler. The park becomes a different world after the rains in December with trees erupting into leaf and the Great Ruaha River swelling to bursting. Keep your eyes open for leopard, lion, buffalo, impala, warthog and cheetah and look for elephants passing through camp. Accommodation and Meals: Kwihala Tented Camp. FB

Days 8-11 Pemba Island, Manta Reef Resort

Fly over the coast of Tanzania to the quiet Indian Ocean island of Pemba. Kick off your shoes and relax in a hammock watching the wind blow over the water and the dhow fishing boats sail by. The next few days are yours to do as little or as much as you like. Snorkeling, diving (at additional cost), fishing sailing on a dhow are all options for leisure. Retire at night to your private seafront villa and drift off to the sound of waves lapping the shore. One of your nights you’ll have the option of sleeping out in the Underwater Room – a private room anchored off shore. Sunbathing by day, wondering at the Milky Way after dark and falling asleep with 360 degree underwater views of the Indian Ocean are what make this the most exclusive room in all of Africa! There is no finer way to finish your African adventure! Accommodations: Manta Resort and the Underwater Room.

Pemba is a rare gem. A remote tropical and pristine island off the east coast of Africa, untouched by mass tourism. Home to compassion, simplicity and time. But simplicity does not necessarily exclude luxury. Or as we call it – “real luxury”. The Manta Resort is situated at the northern tip of the island. It is for the dedicated, the true explorers with an urge to find a home where there is heart and purpose. It is for those who will endure the extra bumpy mile to discover a haven of non-polluted serenity, of silence, solitude and inclusion. Where you are greeted as family, not as a stranger or a tourist. A different reality, closer to nature, closer to the true you. A home of friendliness, sunshine, natural food, superior service, fresh air, diving in crystal clear waters and timeless existence. A five-star retreat at the end of the road you are about to take. Accommodation and all Meals: Manta Reef Resort

Days 12 Departure / End of Adventure

Pack up your belongings for a short flight back to the mainland where you can relax with day use room at the Oyster Bay hotel. Take one last seaside stroll and eat a final tasty dinner before heading to the Dar es Salaam international airport in the evening for your departing flight. Meals Included: Breakfast

Featured Accommodation

Revertrees Country Inn

Kilimanjaro
Set in Northern Tanzania just outside the bustling safari town of Arusha, Rivertrees looks out toward Mt Kilimanjaro, and is perfectly situated for exploring the abundant nature reserves that this region is home to.

The inn is a charming country estate that was once an old coffee farm, and still retains the nostalgic air of a well-loved homestead. Sprawling ten acres of fertile greenery, the grounds are a natural extension of Mt Meru’s sloping foothills, and offer a sanctuary for the birds and wildlife indigenous to the area.

Elegantly rustic cottages are dotted along the river and in thickets of tall trees, while lush lawns and birdsong make for a peaceful and picturesque setting. Set in the heart of an area rich in nature reserves, montane forests and vibrant village culture, the scope for exploration is endless.

Olakira Camp

Serengeti
The mobile Olakira Migration Camp follows the wildebeest migration around the Serengeti, from the epic river crossings in the north to the southern plains where they give birth to thousands of calves each year. Stay with OLakira to witness the greatest animal migration in the world.

The canvas tents are designed to blend into the bush without leaving a trace,  though that doesn’t mean we scrimp on comforts. Admire the sprawling plains of the Serengeti or Ndutu region from the dining tent, or spend a leisurely afternoon in an armchair, watching zebras or Thomson’s gazelles pass by. After dark, dinner is served under the stars.

Kwihala Tented Camp

Ruaha National Park
The perfect cocktail of remote wilderness, rustic decor and an intimate atmosphere. This small and personal tented camp in the Ruaha National Park operates from June to March. It has all the bells and whistles available at a mobile camp. Secluded in a bushwillow thicket, just to the North of the Mwagusi Sand River, it is the perfect vantage point from which to explore the area. The camp’s location is said to be one of the best in Ruaha, being close to the water yet far enough away from other camps to create a sense of privacy. Intimate safari does not get much better than this.

The Manta Resort

Pemba Island
The Manta Resort is not a typical 5 star luxury resort and certainly different to what you might find on other tropical islands. If you’re expecting bling bling bling you will be disappointed. If you however are looking for serenity, close encounters with nature and a close knit family of people we look forward to sharing our island with you.

Enjoy the Manta Resort Underwater Room. A private island surrounded by coral. A place to submerge yourself in the Indian Ocean. You will experience the fascinating shifting lights of the water, the ebb and flow of the tide and subject to the curiosity of the fishy inhabitants of another world.
